Seahawks Go Fishing For Kids Fish & Feast to raise funds for C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation

The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation and the Seattle Seahawks hosted the 2nd Annual Seattle Seahawks Feast and Fish Charity Fundraiser June 7, 2008, at Southport on Lake Washington in Renton, WA. “Our players and coaches really enjoy the experience of fishing with the kids and competing to see who catches the largest bass. But the greatest reward is in knowing that C.A.S.T. will provide children with fishing and outdoors experiences throughout the year,” added Flood. The chilly June morning didn’t damper the sprits of the Seahawks or the event sponsors as they prepared for their morning fishing trip. They sipped on coffee and ate pastries while waiting to be divided up into groups and be sent out on 6 pontoon boats provided by Auburn Marine and Sport. Defensive End Patrick Kearny, the event honorary chairman, was partnered up with Blue Reel Sponsor Bayley Construction. They spent two hours out on the water fishing and enjoying each other’s company. Seahawks Rookie Justin Foresett and Andy Wallace took first place with a 7.5 lbs fish. Second place went to Patrick Kearney and Katie and third place was taken by Will Robinson and Lena. The morning continued with ten disabled children heading out with the Seahawks players for a special fishing trip. They spent an hour out on the water learning how to fish and enjoying being out on a boat. There was nothing but smiles and laughter as the kids returned to the docks! Jordan with the help of Seahawk Patrick Kearny proudly displayed the fish he caught. The morning fishing was followed by an excellent BBQ feast hosted by Bill’s Bodacious BBQ. Festivities included vocal entertainment by Defensive Tackle Craig Terrill, a performance by the Blue Thunder and kids games provided by local radio stations, The New B97.3, News Talk 710 KIRO, and 770 KTTH: The Truth. Mark Christopher for the KTTH radio station jumped on the microphone and with the help of the Seattle Sea Gals to conduct the live auction, which include Seahawks game tickets, Sounders FC tickets, 20lbs of crab and a tour of the new training facility. C.A.S.T. received great support from the greater Seattle area businesses for contributions! “Partnering with the Seahawks is great opportunity for CAST. This event was a wonderful afternoon of entertainment and allowed more people an opportunity to see the impact the foundation has in the community, ” stated Jim Owens, Executive Director for the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation. Thanks to the support of the Seattle Seahawks Community Outreach Department’s Connie Cate and Mike Flood, and our wonderful volunteers we were able to raise $25,000! Special Thanks to our Event Sponsors: Bayley Construction, Bonneville International, Ikea, The Showbox, Purcell Painting and Coating, Renaissance Marine Group, HumanPoint, SECO, The Bristol at Southport, Bill’s Bodacious BBQ, 7-Eleven, Anheuser-Busch, K&L Distributors, Auburn Sports and Marine, Valley Marine, Ideaworks, Polar Graphics, Plano, Zebco, and Wizards of the Coast. ... click here for photos and more

Message from Clay:

Sometimes, I feel like the luckiest man alive. I know some people look at me and feel sympathy because of my condition. I look at my condition (physical limitations) as one of God’s best blessings on my life. My condition has given me opportunities to go and do things beyond my wildest dreams. It has also given me opportunities to inspire others to do likewise. I believe we have a responsibility regardless of our station in life to help others who might be similarly situated find happiness and peace irrespective of their circumstances. Remember, if I can you can.

For more information on Clay and his career, please visit www.teamdyer.com. Clay will be present at an occasional C.A.S.T. Event when his schedule allows, however we will not know until a week or so ahead of time so keep an eye out!
