The Ocala Junior Woman’s Club provided a day to remember to 15 kids from the Hillcrest Exceptional Children’s Group, from Ocala Florida. Pam Stern, spokesperson and member of the O.J.W.C. hosted, for the second year in a row, the C.A.S.T. for Kids Program. “This is an event the lady’s in our club really enjoy having for the kids”, stated Stern. “Everyone has a great time and the volunteers seem to enjoy being here as much as the kids.”
The Ocala Junior Woman’s Club is very active in Ocala, and over the years has gained support from local fishing clubs and civic groups, to conduct youth programs in and around the Ocala area.
“The woman do a great job”, stated one of the 15 boater volunteers. “I think it’s great that we can work together for the benefit of these kids, and offer this program to them and their parents”, stated Kevin Hanna.
Lake Weir is in a beautiful area of Florida, with some of the oldest trees I’ve seen as well as numerous orange groves. The lake is crystal clear, and by the looks of some of the fish caught, I would have to say it’s a great fishery. The kids are all taught to practice catch and release, and proper handling techniques by the anglers, to insure continued fishing success.
As everyone returned to the registration site, they enjoyed hot dogs and chips and stories of each other’s fishing adventure. Everyone gleamed with pride as they received plaques for their accomplishments for the day. Numerous parents offered comments of appreciation and support to the O.J.W.C. and the C.A.S.T for Kids Foundation, as one by one they left with rods and reels in hand.
“We look forward to being able to provide this event next year,” stated Stern. With the response from everyone I spoke with, I don’t think they will have any trouble finding boaters or kids.
