MAGICAL TIME AT MISTLETOE
A Day of Sharing and Caring
Southern hospitality is alive and well in Texas, along with a huge helping of caring and hard work, as was shown by the Sportsmen's Club of Ft. Worth when they hosted their second annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event this past September 27th at Mistletoe Lake near Weatherford.
The hard work came the day before the event when the Sportsmen's Club members spend all afternoon in the hot Texas sun setting up for event. Tents were put up, weigh-in stages were erected, rods & reels rigged, and trot lines set. Hard, sweaty work, but no one complained because they knew the results would be more than worth it.
The caring came from the fact that about 50 volunteers gave up their Saturday to spend with these special cancer patient kids from Cooks Children's Hospital. This was no small thing considering it was the opening of Bow Season - not a small thing in Texas. Plus, that some volunteers came from as far away as San Antonio, in southern Texas, and Big Springs, way over in west Texas.
The hospitality came from the quality of the experience these special kids received and with the warmth and dignity that they were shown. This day they were treated as just good old "Fishin' Buddies" and could just leave their problems on shore just spent a wonderful day on the water.
The event was planned and organized by Troy Moncrief, President of the Sportsmen's Club. Troy has also supported C.A.S.T. events in other part of Texas as well. And because of his dedication to, and belief in, the C.A.S.T. program, he has been unanimously elected to the Board of the C.A.S.T. Foundation. We at C.A.S.T. are honored and thrilled to have Troy on our Board.
Other partners who helped to make this event a success were The Bass Champs Bass Tournament Circuit, Ozarka Natural Spring Water, Fun N Sun Marine, Taylor's Rental Equipment, Chicken Express, and Kicker Fish Bait Company.
