"New Faces at Mark Twain"
It seems as though each trip to Missouri is like a family reunion. A lot of the same faces show up to be boaters and a lot of the same children show up to enjoy a day with old friends and with any annual event, there are always new faces. That is the case in Missouri. It is one the most family oriented events in the Southern Region. The Missouri Bass Federation members show up each year and always bring along a new member to participate in the program. Leggett & Platt sponsors the event each year and continue to bring new employees to help with the program and of course, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and their staff.
Mary Anne Heitmeyer and Chris Coe do an outstanding job of hosting, planning and organizing the day, for the kids in Monroe City. Every detail is taken care of from food, film to fun and everything seems to just fall in place. "I really enjoy doing the event," states Mary Anne. "It makes you appreciate the simple things in life. These children need this program and look forward to being with us for a day, and we look forward to being here as well."
The kids and volunteers at a C.A.S.T. event enjoy a day of fun and fishing but they also enjoy a cook out at the conclusion of the day, and the food at the Missouri event is outstanding. These people know how to fix up hot dogs! Chili, cheese, chips and drinks in its finest hour. Once the plaques are handed out and everyone poses for pictures, the kids and their families take their equipment and memories with hopes of another day of fishing at Mark Twain with old friends.
If you are interested in hosting a C.A.S.T. Event in your area, please contact the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation or just ask the good people of Missouri. They will make you feel like family too.
