Another Great Day at Mistletoe

By: Art Pasley

With dark clouds looming in west Texas, the Sportsmen's Club of Fort Worth hosted their third annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event for the kids from Cook's Children's Hospital. Several new faces were on hand to enjoy the day as well as a few familiar ones. One of those was Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief with his wife, and first lady of Fort Worth, Rosie Moncrief. "This is wonderful" stated Mrs. Moncrief. "This is the third year the Sportsmen's Club has hosted this event and I'm always happy to be a part of that effort" she concluded.
After the kids received their Zebco rod and reel, Plano tackle box, hats and t-shirts and were assigned to their partners for the day, they climbed aboard the boats with their Captains and left for a greatly needed break from treatments at Cook's. The Mayor and his wife wished each of the participants well as they pulled off with hopes of big catches and fun on the water.
Mistletoe Ranch is a beautiful area of west Texas with a few rolling hills and an abundance of wildlife for everyone to enjoy. It's a real working ranch and as you drive down the trail to the water, you can't help but think of the days of cattle drives and the old west. Most of the members of the Sportsmen's Club of Fort Worth look like they know a little bit about cattle, but they also know a little bit about reaching out to those that need help. They are involved year round with youth programs and raise money for a number of organizations that are committed to preserving the fish and wildlife of Texas.
As the boats began to return to shore, each was welcomed back to a well ran professional weigh-in lead by Chad Potts and the Bass Champs Tournament Trailer. As you can see from the pictures, this is no hay hauler. It's one of the best weigh-in trailers I have ever seen, and the kids seemed to think so as well. Each came to the scales and was interviewed by Chad and received a C.A.S.T. plaque for their efforts.
As the clouds began to move closer to Mistletoe, everyone said their good byes and the event came to a close. Thanks to the food provided by Chicken Express and the tireless efforts of the volunteers and members of the Sportsmen's Club of Fort Worth, I would have to say that the thrill of the west is still alive but with a little "Special Thrill Maker" thrown in the mix. Thanks Troy for another great day at Mistletoe!
