C.A.S.T. a Big Hit at Castaic
Lake Castaic is world famous for its big bass. Something like 6 of the 10 largest bass ever caught were caught here. This past Saturday, October 7th, it lived up to its reputation when it hosted its first CAST for Kids event, in more ways than one.
First of all, there was a BIG turnout by the local Dept. of Water Resources, who planned and sponsored this event. A special thanks goes to David Inouye who was the lead coordinator and to Sharon Brown who assisted. Next, there was a BIG turnout of bass anglers, mostly from the local Castaic Bass Club, along with several members of the Friends of Castaic, including several water ski boaters (forgive me for my past comments about them). Then there was the BIG beautiful facility and grounds for the registration, boat loading, lunch, and awards ceremony provided by the Los Angeles County Parks, and help from several of their personnel.
Castaic also, of course, came through with its obligatory BIG bass when Christopher brought in a huge hawg of a fish weighing in at 8 lbs, 2 oz. That's a BIG bass no matter where you are from. It was almost as big as he was. You can see the picture on the picture page for this event.
After everyone came in, we had a BIG barbecue put on by the Castaic Lions Club. They really out did themselves with more than enough food for even the bass fishermen's BIG appetites. This was followed by our Award Ceremony were all of the kids and Boat Captains received a, well not BIG, but a very nice plaque with their photos in it as a special memory of a special day.
And finally, there were BIG, and I mean really BIG smiles on the faces of all of the kids when they came in from fishing; smiles that stayed there all through lunch, the Awards Ceremony, and probably all the way home.
Lake Castaic, as its reputation implies, came up BIG again, this time in the hearts of some very special kids.
