HAGG LAKE HOSTS ITS BIGGEST TURNOUT EVER
The Bureau of Reclamation has been sponsoring an event on Henry Hagg Lake in Oregon for 12 years. There has always been about 25 or so participants and about the same number of boat Captains. Every event over that period of time has be a wonderful success with smiles on every child's face at the end of the day, but we always hoped to grow it and add smiles to a few more special kids. This year we did, and in a big way. This year's September 10th event had 40 kids and 33 boaters! More thrills for more people.
As always the BOR did a great job of planning the event and really stepped up their recruiting of kids thankx to Donna Bishop who is the local coordinator. More kids mean more boats are needed. Scott Mars, representing the Oregon BASS Federation did a wonderful of lining up Federation members and received help from Eric Tonsager and the Oregon Bass and Panfish Club. it worked out that we had just the right amount of boats until we had one special fisherman show up late. That problem was quickly taken care of when Rich Tombleson, who had just come in with his first boating partner, volunteered to head out again. He definitely helped make it a special day for a special angler.
Again this year the Forest Grove and Hillsboro Kiwanis Clubs generously donated all of the food for the BBQ and slaved over the grills to give almost 200 people a wonderful meal. Others that added greatly to the success of the event were the Washington County Parks for the beautiful and well keep site, Forest Grove and Gaston Fire Depts. for helping with the kids, the Coast Guard Aux. that help to make sure all of the kids were fitted properly with life jackets, and all the other individuals that helped on this special day. All of you are "Special people Helping Special Kids Catch A Special Thrill".
