Hot Time in Central Oregon
It was 103 degrees the day before this year's Prineville CAST event; and the forecast for the actual day of the event was even higher. Not something you want to hear when you are expecting 30 or so disabled kids for an event out on the water. But as happens so many times with CAST events, when the weather looks like it's going to be a problem, a higher power steps in and mitigates the problem; in this case a beautiful cloud cover that kept the temperatures down considerably.
The real hot time was the fishing, as most of the kids, with the help of members of the Central Oregon Bass Club, caught fish; one tipping the scale at 4 ½ lbs! Our thanks to Frank Morton, who is also the Mayor of close by Madras, for again lining up the Boaters for the event. Most of the fish were caught on tackle that was provided by Sportsman's Warehouse out of Bend, and the Eagle Claw Company.
We were hosted by the folks at Prineville Reservoir State Park. All of their folks, especially Ranger Brian Anderson, did a great job of setting up the event site, and probably more importantly bringing the coffee and pastries.
And, of course, our biggest thanks goes to the Bureau of Reclamation that both sponsors and helps plan the event. Special thanks goes to Barbara Lesser, out of the local Bend office, and Shari Kohlbecker and her crew that came out from the Regional Office in Boise, for all of their caring and hard working in helping make this such a fun and worthwhile event.
