Shawnee Mission Park Lake

It was a nice, hot day July 30, 2006 at the Bryan T. Reese CAST for Kids event at Shawnee Mission Park Lake in Kansas. With over 100 volunteers and 44 kids participating, it was more successful than the first year event. The Reese family was extremely pleased with the enormous support from the volunteer's dedication to a day of fun for all.
This fishing day is in honor of Bryan Reese. He was a young man who loved fishing, fun and people. I know my brother, Bryan would be happy to know that 44 kids got a chance to fish.
For the second year, Higher M-Pact, an organization which reaches out to at-risk youth, brought boys and girls from 6-16. This organizations "impact" is felt through out the greater Kansas City area. See www.higherimpact.org.
After a morning treat of Krispy Kreme donuts and a DJ's music, it was on to shoreline fishing and boat rides. The kids also got to participate in a balloon launch in Bryan's memory, a lunch of hot dogs thanks to Jim Bodman from Vienna Sausages, Geyers Cook Out Crew, watermelon and chips. There was lots of cold water and pop and a huge "fish" cake for dessert. In addition there were games to include ring toss, Monster golf, beading, face painting and pee-wee fishing.
The out comes were great. Smiles were everywhere. The day ended with a closing ceremony in which each participant was given a plaque with their picture catching a fish. Shirts, hats and fish gear was also given to each participant.
A group CAST for Kids picture concluded a picture perfect day.
