Another Happy Day
By Mary Anne Heitmeyer
The Mark Twain Bassmasters did it again - with the help of many sponsors and volunteers. They have thrilled another group of special kids. The 6th Annual CAST For Kids event at Mark Twain Lake, organized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is an extraordinary outdoor event which teams experienced volunteer fishermen with disabled and disadvantaged youngsters for a day of fishing enjoyment.
While the fishermen shared their boating and fishing adventure with the kids another round of volunteers prepared lunch for the group. The temperatures soared that day and so did the excitement. All of the participants and fishing partners came back from the boats with fish stories to tell and some had the fish to prove it.
One participant summed up the adventure when she said it was a "happy day". The volunteers will tell you it is their pleasure to help the kids have fun and to share the magic of catching a fish and to experience the joy of skimming along the water in a boat. Just look at the pictures. The faces of the kids tell the story. That is what keeps the volunteers coming back. They are even bringing their own teenage children to share the volunteer experience, creating another generation of thrill makers. That is what CAST is about - sharing the thrill.
