Inland Empire CAST Event
Head Northeast out of Spokane, Washington and after about 15-20 miles and a few turns here and there you will eventually get to a pretty little lake located in a pleasant little valley, in of all places, Valley, WA. The lake, Waitts, is the home of the Eastern Washington CAST Event. This year's event hosted 12 children from Spokane's Shriner's Hospital.
Though the turnout was unusually small, the kid's spirits definitely were not. This was as excited a bunch of young fisherman as I have ever seen. You would have thought that they had just come from a 4 latte stop at Starbuck's with the way they were anxiously hopping around just itching to go fishing. And when they did go fishing they were rewarded with a re hot perch, bluegill, and bass bite. All of the kids brought in fish and were smiles from ear to ear.
When they got in lunch was already waiting for them thankx to the generosity and hard work of the Downtown Spokane Kiwanis Club. The hamburgers and hot dogs were expertly prepared by volunteers from Western States CAT and expertly eaten by all the kids, parent, and volunteers. After everyone was done eating special plaques were given to all of the kids and Boat Captains; after all, they were all winners. Everyone left that day with no only a full stomach, but a full heart. There many have only been a small amount of kids, but they handed out a large amount of love and satisfaction.
Our thankx to Winona Resort for hosting the CAST event and providing pontoon Boats and Captains, The Spokane Walleye Club for sponsoring the event along with the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council, the Lake Roosevelt Walleye Club for tables and chairs and Captains, Chinook Boats for water, the White Elephant for bait, and the Kalispel Tribe of Indians for the volunteer shirts and hats.
