C.A.S.T. for Kids event at Lake Conroe
By Al Hicks
Once again, the volunteers got together at April Plaza Marina on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas for the annual Catch a Special Thrill for Kids event. The weather was beautiful, with a bluebird sky and a soft wind from the south that kept the temperature very comfortable. Seventeen Shriner's Kids showed up for the event and we had just enough boats to get everyone out for a couple of hours of fishing. David, one of the volunteers, happens to be a guide on the lake, and he had prepared several areas, and marked them for the boat captains to be able to put the kids onto some fish. It was a great fish catching day and everyone had a great time.
Upon returning to the Marina, Skeeter the Clown made an appearance with Freckles the magic bunny and put on a magic show for the kids while they munched their hotdogs. Afterwards there was the awards ceremony and a great deal of discussion of how well the day had gone. It's not often that you get a perfect day on the lake, but this had been one of them.
All of the participants are eagerly looking forward to next year, which promises to be an even bigger and better event than this year. See y'all then Folks!
