Rapid City South Dakota
Rapid City is one of the most beautiful places a person can visit and enjoy nature at its finest. There is an abundance of wildlife from ground squirrels to deer and elk roaming the area. In the midst of it all lay Sheridan Lake. As you can see from the pictures it is a spectacular site and a wonderful place to fish.
This year the Reclamation team from Rapid City provided an opportunity for disadvantaged and challenged children to enjoy a day of fun and fishing and a great picnic in the park. This year's group are under a protective order and not available for photos. As you can see we got a little creative on one for three of the kids. They really got a kick out posing for the picture.
With smiles and laughter the kids loaded the boats and soon returned with some unbelievable catches. One kid had what appeared to be a pike about 3 ½ feet long and all the kids and boaters gathered to view the monster, as it swam in the boaters live well.
With everyone checked in we moved to the picnic area and had a wonderful lunch with all the trimmings. My diet went out the window when they opened the boxes of cookies. I'll just run an extra lap when I got home.
The awards were soon given to the kids and the smiles grew even wider as each was recognized by their boat Captain for a courageous effort and stories of their day on the water and what a day it was.
Thanks to everyone involved in this year's event for showing the kids what a "Special Thrill" they can have outdoors.
