Yakima CAST for Kids 2007
Twenty-four bubbly little faces with ear-to-ear grins, brilliantly shining with their fish in hand, left Sarg Hubbard Park on Saturday, June 16th, 2007 after a successful day of fishing at Washington's 4th Annual C.A.S.T. "Catch a Special Thrill," event for the Yakima Valley.
This was the first year the participants left the pond with multiple fish in hand. One proud participant, Justin Christensen beamed as he displayed the seven-pound fish he caught with his fishing buddy, Mike Orr. He raised the bar for next year's event to have buckets available to put the "big" ones in. Unfortunately, the event only provided large bags. Fortunately, his family had a bucket in the truck for his fish. Even though Justin was the only participant interviewed by KAPP TV, Channel 35 News, he was not the only proud fisherman with a "big" fish story to tell.
The success of the day would not have been possible without the fifty-three volunteers from the Carpenter's Union Local #770, Bureau of Reclamation employees and family members, and Fort Simcoe Job Corps. Also, a special thank you to the following sponsors/partners, who provided fishing supplies, refreshments, and services to help ensure a successful event: American Medical Response, 40th Avenue Starbuck's Coffee, Valley Septic Service, Albertsons Food and Drugs, Greenway Foundation, Cash & Carry #4 URM, 24th Avenue Safeway, Hammer's Outdoor World, LLC and Boulder City, Nevada C.A.S.T. Event.
The day was filled with simple things like fun, food, and fishing. This day of respite for these participants and their families provided them with new experiences, new friends, and with "big" fish stories.
